ok cuddle – ‘gijinka’

No matter if you're a sexy man/woman or a sexy frog, there's always a long journey to discovering your true self.

gijinka – the new album from Brooklyn's ok cuddle – dives into the different ways we find ourselves and is out now.

It could be finding yourself in another person, or by getting lost online or by putting yourself out there in whatever way. The title gijinka roughly means humanization in japanese and is a fan art term for humanoid drawings of animal creatures (for example what if pikachu was a sexy man).

"We picked it because frog era – our last record – was about change and the metaphor of a tadpole becoming a frog. This record feels like a frog finding herself and becoming human," said band member Nicole Harwyne. "It’s also a very trans album. I feel like since I came out I've had to do a lot of finding myself in different ways. Relearning my style, my voice, the way I relate with my friends and my gf and my mom etc. etc. and a lot of these songs are responding to those experiences."

"It also is a little bit responding to the world we live in. It's hard to motivate yourself to do the work of self actualization when climate change, fascism, global pandemic, and anti trans legislation all feels just around the corner."
