Awful Din – "petunias."

Awful Din has taken the traditional pop song and threw it out the window to make music that resonates with cheerful resilience against the modern struggle of the every-day. The lead single – “petunias.” – from the Brooklyn outfit takes an acerbic look at the realities we face when dealing with mental health and the stress of navigating everyday life. The sonic quality of the song was developed similarly to classical music with the idea taking precedent and the normal“ verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus” structure tossed aside.

With this freedom from structure, the band developed a song that encapsulated their identity: driving guitar, sardonic lyrics, booming gang vocals, and relentless drums. “petunias.” is perfectly summed up by the lyrics “I feel bad for you, but I got shit to do” and shamelessly implies that people shouldn’t let the toxic patterns of others degrade them. “petunias.” was recorded by Steve Roche from "Permanent Hearing Damage" in Philadelphia, PA, and the single art is Elena Barrio (@elenafarts).
